I am able to compile the GParted 0.3.3 tarball with both libparted 1.8.1 (installed in /usr) and libparted 1.8.3 (installed in $HOME). I went through the second build log that Larry sent, and it seems like it is the same problem for which Chris Clayton sent a patch.
