Hi, As you may be aware, the Free Software Foundation released the 3rd iteration of the General Public License on June 29th, 2007. As an official GNU project, it is our responsibility to set an example to other free software projects by migrating to the new license.
GNU Parted may be viewed as two separate projects: the `libparted' library and the default command-line frontend `parted'. While converting the license for `parted' should not be a major issue, `libparted' is used by several other projects, who must be consulted before this change. The current plan to release GNU Parted 1.8.8 under the GPL v3. If you are a developer in one of the projects that use `libparted' and have any concerns over the change, please voice them now.
