Not really, and It has not been discussed in the past.  not that I know of 
anyway.

There must be a release soonish, we do have to solve the "parted only handles 
sector sizes of 512 bytes" thing first.  Which means get some testing done and 
resolve any found issues.
Guess ATM everybody else is stuck on some other project and has not moved 
forward with any of this.  I know parted has been on my todo postits on my 
computer for some time :(

A proposal for the ext4 filesystem detection would be great.  and remember that 
we are trying to move away from fs handling (we are not very good at it 
anyway).  So I guess the ext4 detection would be one of the most important 
issues to resolve in parted.
