I have a headless server running Ubuntu Jaunty, which I connect to via SSH with X11 forwarding (using PuTTY and Xming on a Windows system).

On this system, I can open various X11 apps with nearly no lag, if I open them directly. The problem starts when I fire up the xpra daemon, attach to it, and open my X11 apps on its display. I experience lag anywhere from 1/2sec (manageable) to 10-15sec (nearly useless, as the last key I pressed before such an episode will be repeated until everything syncs up again) when using X11 apps inside of xpra.

Just to clarify, both the copies of xpra (daemon and client) are running on the same machine, with the client being forwarded via PuTTY (SSH) to an instance of Xming. If I run the same applications outside of xpra (even while xpra is running, so I know it's not just xpra eating bandwidth or CPU cycles -- the system will be mostly idle, as will my network connection) they run flawlessly, with no noticeable lag; even on full-screen updates. Pressing (not holding) enter in the middle of a block of text in Bluefish (over xpra) causes lag-hell, anywhere from 5-15sec, with anywhere from 2 to 40 newlines being inserted.

Any ideas?
