OK that last one was different because I forgot to copy /etc/hosts into the chroot, with that it gives the same message as for :14 : chrisx...@novo:~$ xmessage hello No protocol specified Error: Can't open display: novo:14 ps. I do see Xvfb listen: tcp * 6014 8656 Xvfb-for-Xpra-:14 :14 -auth /home/chrisxpra/.Xauthority +extension Composite -screen 0 3840x1920x24+32 -once Oh, that's it probably, my subsequent chrootlogin overwrites the .Xauthority file.
