par2 is a technique like RAID6 which you can apply on individual files. it was/is quite popular for binary postings on Usenet, where it was common for pieces to be lost. IMHO the complexity is not worthwhile for pass, since it is so easy to use Git to replicate data to redundant spindles and/or servers (even Github or similar services.) -- regards, Kjetil T. Homme
