Currently it is written:
"This is a very active project with a healthy dose of contributors. The best way to contribute to the password store is to join the mailing list and send git formatted patches. You may also join the discussion in #pass on Freenode."

This suggests that one contributor might use git format-patch,
and then attach the patch in the email.

I suggest to rewrite that section in order to make clear that
patches must be embedded within the e-mail body.

A bonus would be to mention that in the README as well.

That's because the changes weren't formatted as a patch.
You should follow the procedures here[1] if you want to make changes.
