On BSD/macOS there is also `pwgen`, so agree, the proposed functionality does not belong as a separate command in `pass`.
It would make more sense to remove password generation from `pass`, although with multiple commands for this, the overhead on standardizing the interface (to set password length, the inclusion or exclusion of certain symbols) would not be worth it, as `pass` currently just read n bytes from /dev/urandom (filtering out undesired characters).
The advantage of outsourcing password generation could be support for a “quirks” database¹ but that would require extracting the web site for which the password is being generated, and although many put this in the password path, there is no strict convention.
