Just decided to re-diff a the binutils-posix patch against 2.16 FSF binutils to keep the diff clean.
Attached is the upgraded patch
OK, I see that the patch, as it is, creates gas/Makefile.in~ and gas/Makefile.am~ which is really messy. Having said that, I don't recall any discussion regarding the posix patches going in the book. In fact, coreutils have backed down on the posix warnings following discussions in the relevant working group: http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-coreutils/2005-04/msg00169.html. Bearing that in mind, do we even want/need these patches anymore?
