You should also keep in mind that there are thousands of patterns now published. Don't limit yourself to just the GoF book. First, look at http://hillside.net/patterns/onlinepatterncatalog.htm for an extensive online catalog of patterns. Also, try to find a copy of Linda Rising's "The Pattern Almanac 2000" http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0201615673/102-2806220-4535329?v=glance This book is a simple catalog of over 700 patterns broken down by application categories and related patterns. References and citations are provided. Addison-Wesley published a large series of pattern related literature in the late '90s and early '00s. The 4 volume "Pattern Languages of Program Design" is a fundamental library of practical pattern usage. See them at http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0201433044/ref=pd_sxp_elt_l1/102-2806220-4535329
