Dear Patterns Folks,

I received the following interesting email from Roy. I'm not sure if anyone
is doing research in the areas he mentions. If anyone has any ideas or
suggestions, please send to:

roy <[email protected]>

And, I'd like to hear about it, too :-)! Thanks!!

Linda

Yep I agree its a really nice presentation of ideas.

One thing that has always been a curious question for me, myself coming
from a mathematical background, is are the Gof4 set of patterns all
necessary (I think possibly) and are they sufficient?

I know there are a lot of extensions, and anti pattern type stuff.
But do you know if anyone has done any research on defining extensions
with sensible explanations as to there necessity?

Roy Bonney (retire software engineer, who used to use Gof4 patterns)

Dear Mrs. Linda Rising,

My name is Guenther Franke, I am a long-term independent software
developer and have developed a new website about design patterns
(http://www.w3sdesign.com).
Starting with the standard GoF design patterns, this site
is an
ongoing effort to present common design patterns in a compact and
memory friendly form so that they can be searched, compared, studied,
and ultimately memorized in a quick and easy way.
Please take a look at http://www.w3sdesign.com what it has
to offer.
It's all for free, and it's pretty fast.
For continuously improving the quality of this site, I am seeking
your kind support! Please provide me with any comments or feedback
you may have. Thank you very much!
                           Sincerely,
Guenther Franke

Again, thank you very much!
