Position Name: Experienced Developer Location: WestPoint, PA Start Date: 02nd Aug-10 End Date: 31st Dec-10 Skill Set: Key skills include manipulation of large datasets (e.g. with Perl scripts), statistical analysis of large datasets, working knowledge of generative and discriminative machine learning methods, the ability to deploy the appropriate machine learning solutions using R, and the ability to communicate research results clearly through graphics and written reports. An ideal candidate would be an advanced graduate student in Genomics/Computational Biology, Statistics, or Computer Science with strong machine learning skills and familiarity with R. Position Description: This is a position in Merck's Applied Computer Science and Mathematics Group to support predictive toxicology research efforts in Preclinical Safety Assessment. Tasks will include running existing hepatotoxicity classifiers on new development compounds, optimizing parameters of current prediction methods via simulations, and building novel classifiers with advanced machine learning techniques. The primary data source will be high content analysis data, but the candidate will likely be exposed to other biological data types for predicting toxicological compound effects.
