The position requires a hands-on database technologist with database administration and development experience. Also required is advanced expertise in performance tuning activities. Good communications (written/verbal) are needed to work with the global project team. The person should also be a self starter able to drive tasks to completion independently. *Primary responsibilities:* - Supporting the day to day development activities by working with the global development team on database issues. - Participate in the production support rota. - Performance tuning/troubleshooting. - Run system performance tests in the High Performance Database Lab. - Recommend improvements in the reporting and batch processing code bases based on analysis of system snapshots and DB2Top analysis. - Run DB2 Explains on pre-release code and provide feedback for performance improvements. - Lead database code reviews. *Skills Required * - 5-10 years experience in the database development lifecycle - 5 years experience in design, development and support of large Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence related database applications. - 5 years experience with DB2 UDB running on a distributed platform. - 3 years experience with DB2 UDB DPF in a multi-partitioned distributed environment. - 3 years database programming including stored procedure and trigger development. - Experience with VLDB (very large database) environments (multi terabyte). - DB2 UDB performance tuning experience including extensive experience with explains, system snapshots and DB2Top analysis. - Strong SQL skills including the ability to rewrite complex queries for performance improvements. - Must possess good written and verbal communication skills. - Ability to prioritize, multitask and work with remote teams. *Skills Desired * - DB2 DPF version strongly preferred - Familiarity with an ETL product such as Informatica. - Perl or other scripting language. - Experience in a programming language. Java preferred. - Knowledge of Perforce or equivalent code management software. - Knowledge of business intelligence tools such as Business Objects or Cognos. - Data Modeling using a CASE tool.
