I've just been been to the local Staples and was in the queue behind a guy returning a safe. He said it wouldn't lock and spent a sleepless night because people know that he keeps cash at home. The problem was that the safe was the size of a lunchbox, if anyone wanted to steel it they could have carried it out in one hand.
It shows an unfortunately flawed security mindset, if I put something secure in the mix then the whole thing becomes secure. Also, as part of the return process he was asked for his address. He gave his house number then said he didn't want to give his full address in public so just offered his postcode. For those not in the UK, the two give a unique pointer to the house. Again, he thought he was being security minded by not giving out his full address but failed to realise what he was disclosing. I suppose the moral, always think of the bigger picture and about what you are revealing about yourselves.
