If you're doing the ATA route, it really doesn't matter. As
long as the adapter will support ulaw/alow (non-compressed) codecs.
I've used various types .... PAP2 (linksys - ATDT*99w{numberhere}),
Cisco ATA's (286), Iaxy's... doesnt really matter.
Modem wise, by far the best is the USR Courier V.everything.
The reason is, it support remote call progression and features like
that ( ie "RINGING"). This can be useful in detection of tones, and
nifty stuff like that.
