The sad, very sad thing is that this message/caution, call it whatever,
keeps on falling on deaf ears. Last month I had posted a similar
commentary by Andile Mngxithama(Pointless to climb into the ANC vs COPE
ring), stressing the same reasons and more, on why the PAC should not
partake in the forthcoming flawed process. Even more sad is that there
is not even a space for debate or dialogue for such a pertinent issue,
while indicators are poinitng so steadfastly to that direction. It
leaves one certain that others are still day dreaming about bright
prosoects in these most talked about elections. There is still a long
road before the people of this country took the PAC serious again. But
iinkokhleli zethu are failing to see that. Participating in th upcoming
elections, which in my view, would legitimize the very neo-clolonial
dspensation against which the PAC sought to overthrow , will not
rekindle the spark upon which the PAC was formed. The less said about
the breakway formations sharing the same illusion, the better.

PAC should forget about contesting elections: Qwelane
March 20 2009 , 5:55:00

Veteran journalist and Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) stalwart, Jon
Qwelane, says the party should forget about taking part in the April 22
general elections, as it is nowhere near ready to take on leading
parties such as the ANC and newcomer Congress of the People in the poll.

Qwelane says the party should instead call for a national congress of
the PAC to seek a fresh mandate from its supporters and Africans in
general. He made the remarks while delivering the Langa/Sharpville
Memorial Lecture at the Nelson Mandela Gateway in Cape Town last night.

PAC lacked the vision

The long time political commentator did not shy away from controversy
either, saying the current leadership of the PAC lacked the vision of
its founding President Robert Sobukwe. Qwelane says the party needs to,
as a matter of urgency, attract a talented team of advisors to help it
draft a five year revival plan ahead of the 2014 vote.

Qwelane also lambasted the decision by former leaders of the party not
to maintain contact with its international supporters after their return
from exile, saying this was one of the reasons the PAC had no coffers to
speak of.

He also urged party members to champion African unity saying a United
States of Africa and the return of land to the black majority were
Sobukwe's ultimate goals in the struggle against Apartheid.

The PAC is expected to have a Langa/Sharpville rally in Langa tomorrow
where the party's General Secretary Mfanelo Skwatsha and PAC veteran
Achmad Cassiem will address supporters.
