Background

Hogan Technology is an IT Service provider within the FirstRand Group that
supplies IT services and solutions to various business units within the
FirstRand Group. We have both the technical expertise and the infrastructure to
deliver industry standard services. We run, monitor and support our systems 24
hours a day which allows us to sustain the highest levels of quality and
availability

Software testing is an investigation conducted to provide stakeholders with
information about the quality of the product or service under test. Software
testing also provides an objective, independent view of the software to allow
the business to appreciate and understand the risks at implementation of the
software. Test techniques include, but are not limited to, the process of
executing a program or application with the intent of finding software bugs.

Software testing can also be stated as the process of validating and verifying
that a software program/application/product:

meets the business and technical requirements that guided its design and
development;
works as expected; and
can be implemented with the same characteristics.

Although crucial to software quality and widely deployed by programmers and
testers, software testing still remains an art, due to limited understanding of
the principles of software. The difficulty in software testing stems from the
complexity of software: we can not completely test a program with moderate
complexity. So Testing is more than just debugging and the Hogan testing team
provide the First Rand group with world class testing techniques and process to
facilitate the following:
§ Quicker turn around time of solutions and changes into the market.
§ Improve the quality of solutions and changes migrated to our live platforms
in terms of minimizing defects.
§ Organizations insurance policy against failure and lost business.

Cobol Programming
Computer programming (often shortened to programming or coding) is the process
of designing, writing, testing, debugging / troubleshooting, and maintaining
the source code of computer programs. This source code is written in a
programming language (in our case Cobol).

The code may be a modification of an existing source or something completely
new. The purpose of programming is to create a program that provides and
automated solution to a specific business problem. The process of writing
source code often requires expertise in many different subjects, including
knowledge of the application domain, specialized algorithms and formal logic.

FNB Hogan Technology Development is responsible for the development, support
and maintenance of all products under its control. FNB purchased a Banking
package called Hogan developed by Hogan Systems in America. Since then we have
taken ownership of the system and maintain it ourselves. Hogan Technology
Development is the custodian of all Hogan Systems which include all our
Products Houses, IDS, IPH, ILP & CAMS as well as the customer information
system, CIS.
