Eskom removed all electricity connections and left angry residents of
Praktiseer near Burgersfort, Limpopo in the dark.

Their action was fuelled by increased illegal connections in extension
4 airport in Praktiseer Township.

According to Eskom northern Region Communication Officer illegal
connections threatens supply and can be fatal sometimes.

Disgruntled residents took to the streets recently protesting against
Eskom‘s action of cutting electricity in their RDP houses.

According to receipts of payment a contractor was paid R160, 00
connection fees. Meanwhile, However Eskom issued them with Electricity
cards.

PAC members joined the march in solidarity with residents. They
intensified their action by embarking on operation shut down. They
blocked the R37 Polokwane/Burgersfort road with burning tyres that
disrupted traffic during the early hours of the morning.





Burgersfort Police arrested Gert Masilela Pan Africanist Congress of
Azania (PAC), Sekhukhune Regional Chairperson and Tumelo Molapo
Limpopo Provincial Secretary General of Pan Africanist Youth League
(PAYL) the protagonists behind the protest and charged them with
environmental impact a move to render the town ungovernable.

They appeared before Burgersfort Magistrate court recently, charged
with malicious damage to state property and released on R500, 00 bail
each, their case was postponed to 17 Nov 2010 for further
investigation by police.

Burgersfort police spokesperson Godfrey Mohale confirmed that the two
were arrested and their case was postponed for further investigation.

“This is an on going operation to restore dignity of our people if
Eskom continues with their action”. Masilela said.
“We will rally our people and embark on a radical protest demanding
charges leveled against us to be withdrawn during our court
appearance”, Masilela threatened.

Disillusioned residents filled urgent application in the Praktiseer
Magistrate Court for notice of motion to be granted order of court to
persuade Eskom to reconnect electricity connection back again.
