Subject: “DO NOT INVADE IVORY COAST”. A section of the international community that has, over the past five decades, arrogated to itself the determinants and guardians of democracy as well as kingmakers have once again shown their hands in the unfolding tragic and dramatic events happening in the independent West African nation-state of la Cote d’Ivoire. And it is very tragic that many countries especially those belonging to the Non-Aligned Movement, NAM, have swallowed the propaganda that has been spewed out by the media organizations owned by these countries. The issues at stake - the electoral process, who is qualified to vote and be voted for and which state body declares the final result have been completely ignored and buried in the morass of the belligerent stance taken by Washington and Paris. Truth has been turned upside down while propaganda has replaced rational and logical thinking leaving not only the citizens of Cote d’ Ivoire but neighbouring ones of Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone confused. The Hugo Chavez Foundation International Foundation for Peace, Friendship and Solidarity (HCI-FPFS) have watched these developments and listened to the sabre rattling of the Obama – Sarkozy gang and we are convinced this is the time for us to state the truth. The issues at stake in la Cote d’Ivoire go beyond who won or did not win the election. The facts as we know it point out clearly that what we are seeing is an orchestrated campaign to justify foreign invasion and destruction of la Cote d’Ivoire. The aim of this anti-black, anti-African policy is to overthrow the constitutionally elected Government of President Laurent Gbagbo by use of outside military aggression and terrorism, and replace it with a stooge totally devoted to the interests of wicked imperialism. For the records, the rebel opposition leader, Alassane Ouattara is the former Deputy CEO of the IMF, and former Prime Minister of Houphouet-Boigny who in 1990 administered an IMF plan which plunged the Ivorian people into a profound social and economic distress. He is the puppet" nominated" by the major powers to lead the Ivory Coast and to ensure that their interests are not threatened by the presence of uncompromising and patriotic men such as President Laurent Gbagbo, a long time opponent of Félix Houphouët-Boigny(1970-1990's.) French and American imperialist powers have agreed to remove Gbagbo who is guilty of pursuing a national policy prejudicial to their profits. After years of negotiations following the failed coup d’états in 2002 and 2004 both orchestrated and financed by leading members of the French governing body with fingers pointing at Ouattara as an accomplice along with private investors and some African head of states such as Presidents Abdoulaye Wade of Senegal and Blaise Compaore of Burkina Faso the warring parties finally agreed to hold a presidential election whose second round was held last November 28. The US and France" represented" by a UN mediation team have tried to validate in every way possible an alleged victory of rebel leader, Alassane Ouattara. In defiance of the Ivorian Constitution which provides that the proclamation of election results is the responsibility of the Constitutional Council, the election commission declared Ouattara winner without adducing any serious evidence. The issue at stake, the bottom line is this: Who will control the oil discoveries off the coast of this country? Who is the man to turn to for the perpetual control of Ivory Coast in its state of neo-colony, 50 years after formal the country formal independence was achieved without struggle and sacrifice? The slogan "respect the democratic choice of the people" is a mockery coming from the leaders of the imperialist powers which have orchestrated, covered up and sustained cruel dictatorships around the world as long as their capitalists 'businesses prospered. Interestingly this struggle has created a movement that transcends all petty calculations of politicians as it has served ultimately to act as a detonator in a region that has become a linchpin in the struggle for the energy resources in Africa. Imperialism wants to inflict a lesson on the people. It wants to cut short the Ivorian fight for freedom to deter other nations of Africa. Even if Ouattara had won with the great financial and media support from Paris he will be taking a course that is totally opposed to the march of history which has shown that the age of minions of the ruling classes is dead and gone. Legitimacy is on the side of the people who shake the shackles of domination and leaders who lead them in their struggle. TheHugo Chavez Foundation International Foundation for Peace, Friendship and Solidarity (HCI-FPFS) highly commends H.E. President John Evans Mills of Ghana for his principled stance that negotiation is the only way out not a military option. He may not have said it physically but in his mind he was trying to tell his colleagues that Africa is no longer a backyard for the so-called colonial masters and their imperialist allies for their military adventures. The damage – physical and psychological - that will be inflicted on neighbouring Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone in the event of war will be tremendous. It is obvious the situation in la Cote d’Ivoire can only be resolved through negotiation and not a proxy military aggression spearheaded by Nigeria and other client and pliant states in West Africa. The Foundation therefore calls on all to respect the Constitution of la Cote d’Ivoire as we also urge all African leaders to adopt Ghana’s position and spare the lives of millions of fellow Africans who will be sacrificed to the gods of war if war breaks out in the West African state. Obviously, the struggle is just beginning in Côte d'Ivoire.
