Hi Thembeka

I want to put for the record as untrue and not supported by evidence your
assertions
that Mbeki or myself view all NGOs as products of the imperialist agenda.
The Peace
and Security architecture of the AU a lot of African NGOs were involved in
helping to
fashion it. The Centre for Conflict Resolution; Vasu Gounden’s Conflict
Resoultion network
of NGOs; the Institute of Security Studies. In fact the concept note was
developed by NGOs
through the NEPAD Secretariat and Mbeki’s prodding. He had and still has
absolute confidence
in many NGOs and continues to work with NGOs like CODESRIA and CIVICUS.
In fact; his conflict resolution strategy; involve churches and NGOs. Bishop
Ndungane and
CIVICUBanned in the US for being critical to US Administration) were
involved un the
Zimbabwe Crisis. I personally had discussion with Cardinal Napier on
Zimbabwe as I had
suggested to the Presidency to work with the Catholics in Zim for reasons I
will not elaborate on.
He blew it. In Palestine and Somalia; he has supported Peace and Security
NGOs work and Vasu
continues to co-ordinate the work there.
On the economic front; he has worked with academics and economic think tanks
perhaps not
with advocacy groups. Iraj Abedian; Tony Twine; Azhar Jammine can attest to
that.
the fact that you asserted that SA budget was financed by donors means that
you do not know
the reality of the South African Budget!
On AIDS; Mbeki was at the forefront of funding of Community based Groups
that support
HIV and AIDS patients. In fact a lot of money was given to them and I can
attest to that.
The South African National AIDS Council had NGOs. Certainly; there are NGOs
driving the
Western agenda using the poverty and misery of our people. But to spread
lies that Mbeki
was anti-NGO is untrue. Garth LePere of IGD had the same attitude until he
interacted with
him and now sits on the TM Foundation as well as Chris Landsberg of the CPS.
Yes he was as
I am still opposed to NGOs who were undermining the resolution of the crisis
in Zimbabwe
and other parts of Africa and other missionaries of democracy and voodoo
economics!
What does the AIDC say about the sovereign debt crisis that is affecting the
global economy?
Spend! Spend!

Kind Regards

Cunningham Ngcukana
