Who is who in the PAC political zoo?

Majali our intelligent agencies knew about this a long while ago already and have maintained close monitory. This, in my wisdom or lack thereof would fall under what you would call classified information. You do not simply divulge such as that would be as good as giving it credence or undeserved publicity. You also don’t want to unnecessarily disturb public order by pressing panic buttons, yet you do not ignore it.

The question for me is whether the media exercised due caution (in the best interest of public order) prior to giving it publicity? Who exactly stands to benefit from the created state of anxiety if any? Was approval sought from state security agents prior to publication? Where do we draw the line between “public interest” or “right of public to know” and state security? What does this say for or against the new media bill? Who’s integrity is put to question by this publicity?

I’m listening……

I would like to address issues raised, I think, by Thulani Sibeko. He says the intelligence agencies in this country knew about this long time ago and they monitoring the situation.

The source of the story about "secret military training by whites" is The New Age newspaper. It is an open secret that The New Age newspaper is close to the ruling party or at least its owners, the Guptas. It was reported that ANC bigwigs and SACP top brass frequent the Gupta household. Obviously they must have benefitted from the largesse splashed by this filthy rich family from India.

Intelligence agencies throughout the world plant information in media outlets. It is not like they are saints. In this country they have been used to fight ANC's factional battles. I won't be surprised if they can be found to be the ones fanning the fires of perpetual in- fighting, divisions, cliques and factions within the PAC.

Considering the closeness of the Guptas to members of the ruling party, it is therefore not far-fetched to suggest that the story about "secret military training by whites" could have been planted by those intelligence agencies Thulani referred to in The New Age newspaper. Sometimes intelligence agencies deliberately spread lies, half-truths, inuendo, rumours and disinformation because in most countries they are a law unto themselves.

If it were intelligence agencies which planted the story under discussion in the media then "due caution prior to giving it publicity" falls by the way side or it becomes irrelevant.

Where do draw the line between "public interest" or "the right of the public to know" and state security? And "what does this say for or against the new media bill"?

One of the US Presidents said he who gives up his freedom for security deserves none of them. If the ANC thinks we should give up our freedom in order to get security then we deserve neither freedom nor security. (In fact, it is the corrupt elite who want to be insulated from investigations and not the masses).

The media bill is unnecessary. The pledges ANC bigshots make are simply smokescreens, moving decisions and oversight farther away from citizens and into the hands of technocrats, bureaucrats and oligarchical forces.
