Happy Birthday Madiba
The man of integrity you are, you deliver on promises
Made in the darkness of night.
Neither friends nor foe sway you from principle.
Like a northern star you shine in darkness
Dangling brightly charming angels and demons alike
Beholding them to heavenly pastures.
Like the northern star you preside over the horrifying darkness
Where nightmares haunt those who curse the dark
Where the tears of the destitute are turned into tears joy,
And... the destitution persists!
A saint you are, those weary in body and soul you dance for them.
Hakunamatata, you say.
A miracle we are,
We embrace those who robbed us our land.
No retribution. No justice.
We forgive!
We surpass the angels, the saints and God in forgiving.
No, our wrath does not visit our enemies to the fourth generation.
Nor do we hold them accountable for their deeds of today and yesterday.
We forgive.
We are a miracle.
O' Mandela!!!
How I wish to be you,
I would move from Robben Island to Pollsmoor Prison
>From Pollsmoor to Union Buildings
>From Union Buildings to Houghton.
I would be the heroe of my people.
I would dare not visit a squatter camps,
However my white and Jewish friends
Would drive me on tarred roads of black townships.
I would peep through the dark window of my black limousine
And see the friendly faces of ordinary people I freed from Apartheid.
I would see freedom and prosperity all around
And I would dance a beautiful dance
And they would call it a Madiba dance.
Nor shall I ask them about their sons and daughters
Who died throwing stones at the caspirs
But my name shall be mentioned
It shall be written on billboards and newspapers.
My name shall be mentioned alongside
Those of angels who bow in eternal servitude to Almighty
And yet not alongside those of:
Robert Sobukwe
Nyathi Pokela
Zephania Mothopeng
Kwame Nkruma
Muziwakhe Lembede
Marcus Garvey
Who are they, I do not know them.
I gave freedom to my people,
Happy Birthday Mandela,
You are my heroe!!!
This is a poem of love and affection written in destitution and despair by
Mzakhe kaNdirimani wakwa Skhosana kaMagijima on the 18/07/2011 within 67
minutes of patriotism. My hallucination is as such that next year on this day I
will repossess one farm or factory without compensation within the 67 minutes
and make it a liberated zone and I hope you will join me.
