Hi, Ron, In My case, I have a Soundblaster Live, but I am sure it works the same way as the Audigy card. The Line-in jack is the second one going from left to right. I don't recall what the jack to the left of that is. Anyway, to set up for recording through the Line-in, go to Programs, then Accessories, under that to Entertainment, then arrow up to Volume Control. In Volume Control, once that comes up, go to Properties (yes, I think you have to go to that submenu). In Properties, find Adjust Record Level, or whatever that says, then tab to Line-in and set volume by arrowing up or down, depending on how your screen reader is--mine you arrow up then it gets louder. I set mine to 35. Anyway, once you set that up to your satisfaction, exit Volume Control and make a test recording with your external source, be it a tape deck, turntable, or some other external source you plan to record onto your hard drive from. When you play this back and you like what you hear, well, then, go on and start running your encoder.
I hope what I just said helps. It took me some time to figure it out. At times, I was so frustrated with trying to figure out that Volume Control I almost gave up. But, once I learned where it is buried and got used to setting it up, I have been running like crazy with my encoding ever since. I never use cassettes anymore. I only use them for those who have no computer. Happy encoding! Keep trying until you understand this.
