mp3 is data. It is compressed and takes up less room than audio tracks on a CD. That is why at 128 bit rate or slightly higher you can get 200 songs onto a CD in mp3 form. It might puzzle you a bit until you figure out how it works. Why it works that way, I don't even know and I mp3 everyday!
