You don't record either file.  At least the .M3U file is a straight text
file with a list of files you want played by an MP3 player or software with
complete path statements if need be.
For example, if you had a folder called beatles and one called rolling (for
the Stones), you might have beatles\yesterday.mp3 on the first line and
rolling\satisfaction.mp3 on the next.  If you're using a computer, you might
need a drive letter such as d:\ before so you could put the M3U file on the
C drive and play songs on another drive.
