Hi Bruce. I can only partly answer one of your questions. That is, how robust the HD players are? Well, I have the creative jukebox 2 and have used it on the bus, on the train and during transatlantic and domestic european flights. I've also caught it a couple of times on door handles and the like as I've walked around the house and none of these have caused the player to skip at all. I find it a lot smoother in operation than the previous CD MP3 player that I previously owned.
