go to the play back properties, not the record properties, & check the mute for the microphone. then go back to the record properties, & be sure that stereo mix is checked & that the volume is set.

Subject: A strange recording problem.
Hello,
I am attempting to assist a friend over the phone. He has a bizarre problem which I have not been able to solve and would appreciate some ideas from other listers.
He wants to record an audio stream. So we went into the recording tab of the volume control, unchecked the microphone, checked stereo mix, and adjusted the stereo mix volume setting.
I am certain that we are in the recording tab and that the boxes are correctly checked. Nevertheless, the recording is that of the microphone even though the mike is unchecked.
I encouraged him to unplug the mike; however, he said it wasn't practical to get to the back of the computer, and he was uncertain as to which plug was that of the mike, and it wasn't feasible to trace the mike chord.
So if anyone here has an idea, please let us know.
Thanks in advance.
Don Roberts
