Thanks so much, Ron and Jay for your advice. Now I just have to figure out which one I want. I might go with Goldwave because I know it's so popular on this list; didn't realize it also cleaned up noise. But, Jay, could you sent me the info on where to download Wave Correcter?

Yes Kathy gold wave will do what you want, it is fully functional for 3000
functions free, and then only a fraction of the cost of sound forge, It may
not be quite as good, but works.
