Then it sounds as though the problem lies with the CD burner. He may need to update the drivers, particularly if he has Windows XP and has installed Service Pack 2.

Nope, it's not listed. I had him check that out already, because I thought
that was probably the problem as well.
The only choice he has, when he looks under choose recorder, is that virtual
recorder.

Hi Terri,

Your friend has presumably installed the necessary drivers for his
external
CD burner but has he selected it with Nero. If not, tell him to launch
Nero
and press Alt+R to get into Recorder Menu and press Enter on Choose
Recorder. Provided the burner is plugged in it should be listed. Use the
arrow keys to select it then tab to OK and press Enter. Hopefully it
should
then work.
