Isaac! When a file is opened in Sound Forge it creates a couple of other files to make loading the file quicker the next time. You can safely delete them. As far as a saved file being larger than the one you opened, check your options when saving. It sounds like you opened an MP3 file and saved it as a WAV file. Sound Forge doesn't automatically save a file in the same format it was when opened. It's dumb like that.
