My suggestion is to use something like Gold Wave or Wave Pad. Rip the track as a wave file, then you can edit the track to your preference. If you have access to Sound Forge, I'd recommend that one over the other two, but it is quite a bit more expensive.

i am trying to extract some sound effects files form a cd i have.
The trouble is that for example on the first file after one sound is played there are about three or four sounds all in one track.
i am wanting to split them apart so i can use them for other purposes
