recording live stream with Goldwave?

It has been mentioned on this list that Goldwave can be used to record live 
streams. When trying to do this I've been rewarded with the sound of 
silence. Presumabably something within Goldwave's settings needs to be 
adjusted, but I can't find it. Can anyone suggest what I might be doing 
wrong?
