I'd just like to get this thing working so I can install the Rockbox software on it and start using the unit itself. So, if anyone at all familiar with Archos products has any idea why it's happening and can tell me what to do I would be very greatful.

Chris, make sure the unit is powered up. it sounds to me as if you already did that though.
