Hi Dean, have you looked into the Editor R-1? This will go all the way up to 44 kHz, 24 bit wave format and records onto compact flash. It's very accessible because the menus rap. The controls are easy to use and it has two stereo built-in microphones. I bought one from the good old Chirping Bat for $400 and am delighted I did. My only concern with it is that it has dreadful battery life, but I'll put up with this because I want good stereo from the built-in mics and I don't want to introduce artifacts by recording to MP3.

Subject: Re: ifp 999 How unusable is the proprietary software for transferring files? Can a competent user of the JAWS cursor or Window-Eyes mouse pointer use it? If I get one of these, I would want to transfer the occasional recording to the computer, not do a lot of transfers, and not use it as a mass storage or listening device. If using the proprietary software means I can choose to make higher-quality recordings, I might want to do so. I assume this quality improvement also applies to the 799 or 899 though I haven't researched the matter fully yet.
