Hi Joe.

The microphone socket is located in the middle of the row of five
sockets on the back of your sound card.

What operating system are you using?

Have you tried updating your sound card drivers for your operating system?

I have had three different Sound Blaster sound cards and they have
all had what you hear is what you get on them.

You can find what you hear is what you get by doing the following:

Press Start to fetch up the Start menu, then press P for programs,
then press A for accessories, then right arrow to accessibility, then
press E for entertainment, then press V for volume controls.

Once you are in the volume controls you need to press the alt key for
the Menu Bar, then press P for options, then press R for properties.

Once you are in the volume control properties you need to tab once to
the radio buttons and make sure that adjust volume for recording is
selected and then tab once more and you should land on an option
called show me the following volume controls which is a list box.

When you have reach this option show me the following volume controls
you need to use your arrow keys to arrow up and down the list.

The list should contain the following:

Midi, Line-in, Aux, Wave, Microphone, What you hear, CD, TAD-IN, S/PDIF-IN.

If you want you can check all these options and then tab to the ok
button and press enter and this will show you all the recording
volume controls that are checked.

Many Thanks.

Karen.
