What I am saying is yes, essehtially, there should be one standard,
that way everybody can use it.  If you want higher fidelity, fine, but
use the same H323 protocol or whatever folks are generally using these
days.  You want to add in web page sharing?  Also fine--there's
probably a nice protocol around for doing that, too, which all these
clients should be using. Barring this, then give us a front-end which
will figure out which of the standards currently in use is actually
being used, and then go launch that program and use it.  Then all the
front-ends will look alike--you'll have the same key-presses for
various functions, find the same information on-screen in the same
places, the text chat will work the same, etc., etc.
