I wonder if my Turtle Beach doesn't do the same thing, since JFW is always the first audio, I could be recording at 44.1 but getting 11025 sampled up such that you get midrange only on the playback from the wav file. Maybe disabling that SoundMax chip will help as Windows Update would rather having me use CMedia drivers with my Turtle Beach, which sounds about telephone quality as I accidentally did it once.
