Hi,
I've a nokia 6630 which takes several formats of ring tone, I've made all
the one's I use either myself, or have taken them off the internet. It takes
several differnt formats but I've found the easiest to use, and the easiest
for making my own in, is in Wav format. I use a CD ripping programme, to rip
say a whole song of a music CD, then use something like Goldwave or just
Windows Sound recorder to edit the song down to the short snippet/section I
want for the ring tone. I believe there are programmes out there that would
allow you to convert this to other formats, I know Goldwave will convert it
to a few including MP3, but its just easier to work with the sound in wav
format to begin with, and I think this also helps in reducing loss of sound
quality. The phone I have, the Nokia 6630 will only take the ring tones as
.Wav files if they are in a certain format; fairly low bit rate/sampling
rate, though I wait till I've done all the editing of it before I lower down
the sampling rate/bit rate to what the phone will accept.

Have you checked with your cell phone company to see what format your phone
will except? Some phones except mp3.
