A friend has just written to me and I will include his problems below and
I'd appreciate any help that you might be able to offer in the way of stand
alone recorders. Here's my friends text:
Anyway, my frustration is truly growing with this recording thing. Last
year, I went out and purchased a Yamaha keyboard. I can use it as a
piano, and change effects but cannot record with it. It has a display
screen and if you want to record, you have to go through several options
and menus, and of course you have to look at the screen to know what's
going on.
Ok, a couple of weeks ago I bought a Boss br600 multitrack recorder. Well
guess what, I have the same problem. I tried to make sure the problem I
had with the keyboard wouldn't happen again by asking the guy in the store
to explain a little about it first. But what he told me didn't work and
you have to go through several functions to record.
I guess the logical option for me as a blind person is to use Sound Forge,
or Sonar or something like that to record but for some reason, I'd rather
use a stand-alone recorder, twiddling knobs and sliders. And it's just
easier to imagine plugging keyboards and guitars into a stand-alone
recorder, I'm kind of afraid to mess with it on a computer. Plus, to
record and master properly, I read it's a good idea to have two
soundcards, and then you need specific soundcards and on and on.
I am not totally against using the computer to record my music by any
means--I use it for everything else. But I'd love to be able to use
separate equipment for recording, if at all possible.
I'm just looking for answers with this problem I have and was wondering
what you have to offer as far as advice goes or if you could point me
towards somebody who uses multitrack recorders like mine and has had
success with them. Or am I just going down the wrong road with not trying
to record with the computer and should I just give up stand-alone
equipment?
Thanks for any help you can give.
