Vicky! There are special microphones for use in binaural recordings
but I believe that many people just use two otherwise regular microphones.
Binaural recordings take into consideration the effect that the head and ear
has on the perception of sound at the ear. Regular stereo recordings don't.
The two microphones of a binaural recording setup are typically placed in
the ear canal or the ear canal of something simulating a human head with
ears.
