Hi,

In Windows media:

Alt T
arrow up once to options
Control tab to file types
Tab once to select all
Tab to the apply and press space bar
Shift tab to the ok button and space bar
Exit Windows media player completely
Play a file, a CD or what ever and you should be good to go

Note that Real player is notorious for trying to take back control so don't
let it and eventually it will stop trying.
