Well that wouldn't be good. I think you would just run it through smoothly. I used to use alcohol and cuetips when I had a job cleaning tapes for the computers for the State of Michigan. These were open reel tapes that ran through a machine where it had blades on it to clean the excess dirt and iron oxide from the tapes. I'd have to use the cuetips after every other time I would clean a tape. I'm sorry if this is straying off topic, but this was some general information about using what I used.
