Hello, You ought to be able to buy at least a 30' model for $500 or less. also, I'm figuring as long as you can get a signal into the converter box and have something to play it back, TV ought not be necessary. I've ran vcr's with no TV set using connection via my stereo to pick up TV sound. Last, if you have a cable or satellite set top box, no digital to analog converter box is needed, because the set top box does the conversion from the provider. I will say though, when getting a set top box, I alwaays verify audio out connections to run into my Home theater system.
