The ds-30 works as well as the other models. Only, it only has 250 megabytes of memory. Also, I think the case is plastic instead of mettle.
I wish I could get the ds-50 locally because it also comes with a case. The units don't have a pocket clip so a case is kind of important. One can order the case but you still don't have as much memory and recording time with the other models.
