Hi tom, let me say that as the founder of this list, I am really glad you
are looking after it. It's a thankless task. I also think it's a credit to
you that you sound people out for their views on these sorts of issues.

I'd like to suggest that there is a difference between free for all
advertising of podcasts and streams, and the mentioning of PC-Audio related
streams or podcasts in context. For example, I think someone posted here
about the recent main menu broadcast on MP3 players. To me, such a post is
perfectly appropriate, since it directs people to additional info on matters
pertaining to the subject matter of this list. Similarly, I think in
response to someone's question about iTunes on here a while back, I directed
people to the January FSCast.

Similarly, I think the may FSCast would indeed be of real interest to people
on here. To be honest I just forgot to mention it here.

Petro often mentions his podcasts on Replay AV, and that's right on topic
too in my opinion.

This, to me, is all good stuff. What I think would detract from the list is
everyone being able to write in to say, "come and listen to my podcast where
I've done a sound seeing tour of my dentist's waiting room" or whatever.

So to me, if the subject matter of a stream or podcast is of the kind that
would be considered on topic for this list, it is worth a one-off mention.

Thanks for your work on the list and keep up the great work.

Jonathan

There will be no change to the rules and guidelines for the
pc audio list. Thanks to all for your thoughtful and
enlightening comments. I actually aggree with most of the
posts thinking that an e-mail list should be rather
restrictive in the content that is permitted. I'll explain
my reasoning below for making the suggestion if anyone is
interested in reading it. Otherwise, go to the next message.

A week or so ago there were a few comments posted to the list
about a piece of software that was no longer going to be
accessible with a screen reader. Shortly after reading those
posts I listened to the May issue of FS Cast and was amazed
what all Jonathan was doing with the PAC Mate Omni. I got to
thinking, and me thinking is a problem in itself, this is
something any blind person who is the least bit interested in
audio and computers should hear. I'm sure those podcasts
have more listeners than this list has members, but there
might be members of this list who aren't aware of that
podcast. Likewise, there are other podcasts that I think are
extremely helpful in teaching and demonstrating a lot of
accessible hardware and software and perhaps a few list
members would find them of interest. I think sometimes, we
emphasize too much the negative and forget the positives of
accessibility.

Thanks again,

Tom
