Hi Barry,

I suggest getting yourself a Griffin iMic and a link where you can find out
more info and buy it in Australia is from:
http://zytech.com.au/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=ZOSFAFMDS
&Product_Code=iPGRMIC

This USB sound card is very small, needs no drivers and is a good solution
for computers that don't have line-in etc.

Thanks John. Can you or anyone suggest a fairly good quality USB sound card
with line in and line/headphone out which works well
with JAWS, is fairly small and preferably is powered from a single USB port.

Thanks,
Barry

Hello Barry,
You had it right the first time, you will need a USB sound card with a line
in jack.
Trying to run a line out in to a mike in as you discovered, just will not
work.
My best regards!
  John.
