It will probably depend also on how good you want the sound to be.

I would use some kind of digital to analog converter like the xitel pro
which you simply connect to a usb port. The little box has two RCA sockets
which you can use to connect to an amplifier.

Subject: RE: Hooking up laptop

I have a cord running out of the audio jack on the laptop connected to a
splitter which connects to the line in plugs on my amp. I take this further
by running a stereo chord from the amp's line out to my wireless broadcaster
that my buddy who works at Brookstone's gave me. So I get sound from my
stereo speakers wired to the amp, on my wireless headphones, and my wireless
portable speaker. Other than the fact that my girlfriend dislikes me
walking around the house with headphones on, it's great! I don't know the
conventional name for the splitter, but any Radio Shack or electronics store
will know what you want.
Cheers,
Peter

Hello folks what type cord do I need to be able to hook my laptop up to my
