I'm unfamiliar with AVG, but ZoneAlarm usually shows a pop-up when it detects a p[rogram or process trying to access the Internet. It will ask if you want to Allow or Deny the access, and there is a CheckBox to Remember the setting. Does this sound familiar to you?
