Yes, well, I appreciate the correct terminology, and I knew that the example 
I gave wasn't it.  Smile.  I really need to find a good glosary for all this 
stuff.  Never seems to get explained anywhere, and the only way I know what 
an effect does is to experiment with it.

| under "making a microphone sound like a telephone", it will be listed as
| a high-pass filter. I'm not saying this to be picky, but if you learn
| the terminology for the effects you want, you're more likely to be able
| to research which program will best provide you with that effect.
