Okay, don't know what was going on here but I decided to test the
Total recorder software again to see whether it would resume the
Windows machine from "standby" mode and - as other list members had
reported - it does indeed work so no idea what was going on before.
Set Total Recorder to record something at 13:55, the computer resumed
from "Standby" mode at 13:53, in plenty of time for Total Recorder to
start its job.
